In The Wave 4 Way To Building Your Downline by Richard Poe,
the author talks about the five core strategies of MLM leadership. According to Poe, there are only two ways to earn a big
income in MLM. They are... 1) Be very fortunate to personally sponsor or have distributors lead you to strong leaders
who can build this business without you. Or... 2) Personally become a strong leader who can attract other strong
leaders and build a massive organization. I don't know about you but I personally don't want to rely on luck to have
success in MLM. If you feel the same, then the only way to build a big income is to focus on becoming leaders ourselves.
Building a Network Marketing Team, Not Just a Downline In Wave 4 Way To Building Your Downline,
Poe teaches that the first core strategy of MLM leadership is to build a team. MLM, like any other business is a
team sport. The people who have the most success are the people who can build the best teams. Therefore you too must learn
how to be a great team builder. As part of teaching how to build teams, Poe illustrates the concept of "finding your Grant." This
idea is based on the story of Ulysses S. Grant, one of the most successful generals in United States history. Ulysses S. Grant Abraham Lincoln's First General To understand the significance of this story you must first understand the
background behind it. Grant was a general in the United States Union Army during the Civil War. One of Abraham Lincoln's
biggest challenges during this war was finding good generals. Most of Lincoln's generals couldn't make decisions. They relied too
much on the President. As a President, you need leaders who can take initiative and do their jobs without you having to do it
for them. You have oversight over a large variety of areas when it comes to running a country. There's no way you can effectively
do your job when you are forced to pick up the slack of others who are unable or unwilling to do their jobs. However, Ulysses S. Grant was different.
This was a man that had no problem with taking initiative. Grant dominated the Confederate forces so much so that Poe points out his nickname became
"Unconditional Surrender." After two years Lincoln placed Grant in charge of all Union forces. Here's what Lincoln had to say about Grant according to
Poe... "Grant is the first general I have had," Lincoln commented. "You know how it has been with all the rest. They wanted me to be the general.
I am glad to find a man who can go ahead without me." Recruiting Leaders With Initiative Begins With You
You too want to develop a distributorship with many "Ulysses Grants" as a part of your network marketing organization. This doesn't mean that
you want a bunch of distributors that are doing their own thing. Obviously part of success in network marketing is getting a lot of people to follow a
simple system. You want leaders who don't have to wait on you to do everything. You want leaders who can initiate the right activities themselves.
A "Grant" in your organization doesn't wait for you to call all the new distributors to welcome them to the team and get them plugged into training. A
"Grant" calls the new distributors and plugs them into training himself. A "Grant" doesn't wait for you to recruit and put people underneath him. A "Grant"
recruits on his own and leads by example. If you want to find your "Grant" for your organization, the easiest way for that to happen is for YOU to
become a "Grant" first. You need to start taking initiative and start driving your organization. Then you will attract others with a similar philosophy who
will build their business the same way. That is the key to finding "Grants."
It is you becoming one first and then locking in with others who show the potential to become a "Grant" themselves.
